I remember vividly the first time I saw the Boy Scouts gear section in a JC Penny. Backpacks, mess kits, pocket knives, etc. It was like nothing I'd ever seen! And it wasn't the shiny new gear that was exciting, it was the potential for adventure that they represented. I grew up in Georgia, USA, and when I saw new woods or forested areas, I would scan the treeline for the familiar indentations of trailheads. When there weren't any, I would make some. Then, I would hit the woods, bringing along my hand-made bow and arrows, my pocket knives, my walking sticks, my canteen, etc. There was nothing more fun than searching out adventures!
