To Have A Grand Adventure

Indiana Jones. Flash Gordon. The Hardy Boys. Allen Quatermain. I grew up in the pursuit of adventure. I remember being handed the rolled-up movie poster they gave to all the kids at the Star Wars premiere; the obvious thing to do with it was to be Luke Skywalker, the hero.  To save the day.  But more importantly, to have an adventure.

I grew up in south Georgia, and wherever we went, there would be the wonderful, beautiful Georgian forests. When I saw new woods or forested areas, I would scan the treelines for the familiar indentations of trailheads.  When there weren't any, I would make some. Then, I would hit the woods, bringing along my hand-made bow and arrows, my pocket knives, my walking sticks, my canteen, etc. There was nothing more fun than searching out adventures!

I remember vividly the first time I saw the Boy Scouts gear section in a JC Penny.  Backpacks, mess kits, pocket knives, etc. It was like nothing I'd ever seen!  And it wasn't the shiny new gear that was exciting, it was the potential for adventure that they represented.

At Apocalypse Gear, we all have a deep love for adventure that goes back as far as we can remember. Going camping, building forts, hunting, fighting epic battles in the woods in the middle of the night; we all lived for adventure. We love the gear, too, and we’re always on the lookout for something that will help build the ‘perfect’ kit, but what stands out to us is not the stuff itself, but what lies behind it. We might be going for a day hike, or a long backpacking trip. We might be heading into battle, or assisting in a rescue mission. Whether it’s a day at the park with the kids, or World War Z, we want the best gear we can get to face whatever the day brings. We make what we love and what we need in our Seattle workshop, by hand, and we are proud to offer what we feel is the very best gear you can get.
